Support Services - Homelessnes

Homelessness

Main Stay

To tackle homelessness, the city of Liverpool developed a revolutionary project called MainStay with the aim of providing improved access to short-term housing through support providers working together to assess and offer accommodation. MainStay helps ensure that all providers prioritise people with the greatest need.

As one person MainStay has helped says: "I got my decisions on all the hostels the very same day. Previously I would have to complete many application forms and visit each service for a separate interview."

They now provide the service across the Liverpool City Region to ensure that people who are homeless receive a fast, responsive and thorough assessment and are placed in the right service at the right time.

You can find out more about MainStay by emailing them at gateway@mainstayliverpool.info

If you are homeless or at risk of homelessness you should contact your local Housing Options service. Housing Options services in the Liverpool City region have access to MainStay and can refer you to temporary accommodation if needed.

The Whitechapel Centre - Langsdale Street, Liverpool, L3 8DT

The Whitechapel Centre was started in 1975 to meet the needs of homeless people in Liverpool. This is still their main aim and are committed to it, but they have learnt a lot since then. They are facing new challenges and are continually adapting.
They have grown in scope, experience and professionalism and have a reputation for their ability to get things done.
At the Whitechapel Centre they believe it is essential to empower and enable people to live independently. They work with some of the most vulnerable, isolated and lonely people in our community. Their daily activity sessions build confidence, skills and capability. Their support workers prepare clients to take on a tenancy, deal with health issues or addictions, develop budgeting skills and move into suitable, good quality homes.
